Walk grading
Please read the following to understand how walking routes are graded for our holidays.
Challenging
This may involve ascending / descending 100m/3000ft. Sections may be off mountain paths. Ascending and descending at times steep ground Covering boggy, rough ground and rocky sections. Time could be 7-8 hours. Distance could be (16km) 10 miles.
Moderate
This would involve approximately ascending 60 -70m/2000ft Terrain could be similar to a challenging walk. Time could be 5-7 hours. Distance could be (16km) 10 miles.
Moderate to Easy
Walks are mostly lower level with little ascent. Mostly of footpaths. Time 5-8 hours. Distance could be up to (16km) 10 miles.
Easy
Short walks Time 2-3 hours Distance (8km) 5 miles. These walks have a variety of terrain. They usually involve visiting a local beauty spot.
These gradings are only a rough guide to give a general idea of the physical demands. Mountain Journey Scotland rotate the grading levels each day to allow recovery after a more challenging route day. If you have any queries please get in touch.
To get the most enjoyment from your holiday you should have a reasonable level of fitness. All of our holidays have at least one challenging route day. To be able to undertake these routes you either should be doing this type of activity on a regular basis now or be taking regular aerobic exercise 2 – 4 times per week.
