Walking holidays around the Isle of Skye

Isle of Skye – 7 day guided walking holiday

Walking itinerary, routes & prices for the Isle of Skye

The Isle of Skye is the second largest of the Hebridean islands lying of the west coast of Scotland. It covers an area of 1800 square metres (700 square miles). Wherever you are on Skye you are never more than 8 km from the sea.

The island is a wonderful place. It is truly spectacular. If we had to choose our favourite area in Scotland it would be a very hard choice but Skye would probably be first on our list. Skye has so much diversity of landscape.

Skye is a walkers paradise. It is jammed packed with fascinating places to explore. This is  without doubt a stand out island with the choice of interesting and exciting walking experiences that have no equal in the British Isles. Mountain vistas, hills, waterfalls seascapes.

The Cullin Mountain range are the finest in the UK. They are dramatic, rugged and spectacular. The ridge consists of a horseshoe-shaped main ridge some 13 km (8 miles) long with ridges radiating out around deep cut corries. Along this ridge are strung eleven Munros separate mountains over 914 metres (3000ft)

There are also many other interesting hills to see and climb. The Red Cullin which stand opposite the Cullin ridge giving a strong contrast a smooth reddish outline as opposed to a jagged and dark one. Further to the north east end are the Trotternish hills with their random pinnacles. Over to the west Mc Leods Tables which are peculiar perfectly flat topped hills.

The coastline around Skye in places will take your breath away. Spectacular sea caves and stacks abound soaring cliffs over 300 metres (1000ft) in height.

The Isle of Skye is a must visit island. For all the wonderful places Scotland has to offer a walker Skye is a remarkable place.
